Academic Programmes
How the ISE Prepares You for Your Future
All
of your classes in the International School of Economics and Social Sciences
(ISE) will be conducted in the English language. This means that your level of
English language proficiency should be very high.
Students will be required to earn a score of 6.0 out of 9.0 on the IELTS
English language examination to progress to the second year of the ISE
programme. To help you achieve this level of English proficiency, the ISE
offers a 1-year intensive English programme.
Choosing Your Major
The choice of a major is one that should be taken seriously; as it is something you will have to commit yourself to for the next four years. The degrees available at the KBTU/University of London ISE programme include Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics & Management or Banking & Finance. You have an advantage if you apply early, and you should take sufficient time to consider what your career and life goals are before you make your choice.
The ISE is an ambitious programme designed in collaboration with the London School of Economics. It combines a curriculum consistent with the standards of the University of London but also is fully in compliance with Kazakhstan national criteria.
ISE prepares students for the following degrees:
- International Bachelors Degree in Economics & Management
- Bsc Curriculum In Banking And Finance
- Bachelors Degree in Economics
A World-Class English Language Department
In
order to help you achieve the ISE's strict English language requirements, you
will take a one year intensive study programme. At the ISE English Department,
you will be taught by some of the most qualified English-language professors
available in the country.
You will be admitted as an ISE student after you pass internal entrance
examinations aimed at assessing your quantitative abilities and level of English
language facility.
The fact that twenty students have already taken and passed the official IELTS
examination out of the 29 students admitted in the 2007-2008 cohort, and will
complete their AP examinations in May 2008 is a strong testimonial to the
English Department's effectiveness.
Teaching Methodology
How We Will Teach You To Think For Yourself - Using The Most Cutting-Edge Teaching Methods In Kazakhstan
The ISE places a great deal of emphasis on self-study (reading, working on assignments, preparing for your examinations). This is because one of the main goals of the programme is teaching you to take responsibility for your own learning and develop your own point of view on important topics. This differs greatly from most higher education programmes in Kazakhstan, both historically and present day. While many students may find this a challenging process, you will benefit greatly through developing self-management skills, and intellectual independence.
